Nicholas S. Preservati serves as Deputy Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Commerce, Director of the West Virginia Office of Energy, and Chairman of the West Virginia Public Energy Authority. With three decades of experience in energy law, he has held senior legal positions at leading law firms, American Electric Power, and other prominent energy companies.

He is recognized by Chambers USA and has been nominated for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America. Nicholas also holds an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest possible rating for legal ability and ethical standards.

He earned a Master of Science in Energy Policy and Climate from Johns Hopkins University, a Juris Doctor from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Notre Dame.
